ASCCP Announces HPV Genotyping Guidelines

On March 19th, the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) released a Clinical Update regarding the use of HPV genotyping tests, following FDA approval of the Cervista® HPV 16/18 and Cervista® HPV HR tests by one week. In making the announcement, the ASCCP noted that HPV genotyping was discussed at length during its 2006 Consensus Conference, but a management algorithm was not released at that time since an FDA-approved genotyping test was not yet available. The new ASCCP algorithm focuses on the role of HPV 16/18 genotyping in managing the care of women thirty years of age and older.
