This online, self-directed course reviews the causal relationship between specific HPV (human papillomavirus) types and cervical cancer. The course explores the natural history and progression of cervical cancer and its precursors, reviews key literature and describes current practice guidelines for the management of patients with ASCUS, CIN1, CIN2 and CIN3. The rationale for genotyping for HPV types 16 & 18, which are both highly oncogenic and persistent, is presented.
